Basake Holy Stars Football Club head coach, Abdulai Gazale, has stated that his team’s shock win over Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club was largely down to The Phobians underrating them.
Holy Stars made its debut in the Ghana Premier League on a stunning note by beating Hearts of Oak 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Prince Tweneboah scored in the second minute and despite dominating possession to the tune of 69% to Basake’s 31%, Hearts of Oak’s couldn’t get the equalizer.
Having finished 12th and 14th respectively in the past two league campaigns, Hearts are under intense pressure to excel this season but wasted several good scoring opportunities especially from set pieces to lose its opening tie of the season.
Speaking after bagging the big win, Gazale, a former Kumasi Asante Kotoko assistant indicated that Hearts underrating them played a role in the win.
“They underrated us. I saw comments on their flyer, saying we should come and collect goals. If you disrespect your opponents, they will discipline you.”
Hearts play Kpando Heart of Lions next on September 15 at Kpando; Lions drew 1-1 with Aduana Stars in Dormaa Ahenkro.
